three similar deeds on the 9th. instant. I am, however, some-
-what doubtful whether, in view of the instructions contained
in Mr. J. Chamberlain's Despatch No. 132 of the 23rd. May,
78 1898, that no more 999 year leases should issue, the practice
hitherto obtaining ought not to be modified and I would suggest
that it might be advisable to give notice that after a certain
date the option in question will cease.

I attach a statement of Crown Leases
granted for a term of 75 years prior to the 3rd. March, 1849,
nclosure 2.

which have not yet been extended for a further period of 924
years, together with a minute by the Land Officer, dated the
14th. ultimo in which the Acting Attorney-General concurs.
